The following were my two greatest
strengths
along with the reasons
why
or
how
they were my strengths:
1.
I was able to use a variety of resources to find information about my assigned topic which is helping me make my
paper more interesting than it would be without such a variety of different sources..
2.
I was able to create a draft of my paper well before the deadline, leaving me time to revise my introduction
My two areas for
improvement
, followed by short and long-term
action plans
explaining
how
I plan to improve are:
1.
Transformmy set of cited resources into the MLA format required for final submittal. Although we only had to turn
in a draft list of sources, I didn’t use the MLA format. I wasn’t familiar with how to list sources that way.
Short-term plan
I will review the specifications of MLA for all the different types of resources that I have.
(now)
Long-term plan
I will purchase a guide to MLA format so I can continue to expand my understanding of citing
(in future)
different types of resources.
2.
Edit for word usage efficiency – tighten up size without losing any meaning My draft was too long, by a page. The
paper is supposed to be 3 to 5 pages and my draft was 6.
Short-term plan
Through feedback by the instructor, I was able to see where there was redundancy in one whole
(now)
paragraph and I can synthesize two paragraphs.
Long-term plan
I will be more direct and active with language thus reducing non-efficient passive phrases
(in future)
An
assessment
of my performance against previous action plans indicates
progress
in the following areas:
My personal
growth
was most enhanced by doing:
By not just taking notes but carefully reading the information I
feel like I really understand more and ammore comfortable writing in my own voice
because
I understand
.
The reasons
why
I grew are:
I stopped trying to keep track of what other people said; I took notes but also thought
a
bout the cases they were making. I realized that writing a paper isn’t just about writing; it’s also about learning.
My mood and
attitude
toward learning during this time was:
I started out feeling a bit overwhelmed but discovered
that by working hard & worrying less, I was going to meet the deadline even while I was learning. That felt great!
The most valuable
insight
I learned about myself is:
Once I understand something, I don’t have to just repeat what
others have said; I can explain it in my own words and in my own way. When I can do that, I KNOW I’ve learned something!
Knowing this will
improve
my performance by:
Giving me the confidence to stop trying to memorize things and try to
understand them instead. I may occasionally get something wrong, but I’m learning and thinking for myself.
