Performance Criteria
Performance criteria are standards of performance, clearly and explicitly defined, which allow both the performer and assessor
to have a mutually understood set of expectations by which performance may be measured and assessed. Performance
criteria provide simple-to-understand, realistic, and measurable values of excellence.
1.
Organization of presentation (how appropriate was it with respect to the audience and how
complete was it— i.e., was it missing any critical elements?)
2.
Quality of data presented (how scientifically sound were the methods used to obtain the
data?)
3.
Ability to answer questions from the audience (was an answer given and how accurate was
that answer?)
Notes
In order to complete a high-quality assessment, it is critical that you closely and carefully observe aspects of the performance
with special attention to how the performance meets the established performance criteria.
Strong opening with good eye-contact. Slides used appropriately; slide #4 contained chemical
formulas probably not explained thoroughly enough for audience, some look confused. Strong use
of-peer reviewed journal articles but probably pitched a bit beyond an undergraduate audience.
Meghan is an interesting speaker & the audience wants to better understand. Lab experiences
fully documented and written up nicely. This is high quality work! Question time: Meghan cited
Study A when I think she meant Study D. That’s a problem. Strong answers but rely too much on
technical terminology that is frustrating listeners. Strong answer to question & interesting/pro
vocative answer. Meghan doesn’t seem comfortable with audience questions and seems to be a
bit flustered. 5 questions asked, 3 very strong answers given, 1 incorrect answer (I think she
simply misspoke but it is still incorrect), 1 question not answered. Is losing connection with
audience. Gave a good ‘next steps’ conclusion. Audience gave polite applause; Meghan gracious in
response.
