Gina won the state lottery in 1998. The chances of that, everyone agreed, were incredibly slim. When
she won the state lottery
again
in 2011, there was a media storm — most folks were sure the game had
been rigged. But it really hadn’t; Gina had just been lucky. Her husband, Shane (often referred to as
“Mr. Lucky”), was interviewed about it. He explained the likelihood of Gina’s accomplishment like this:
“Oh, sure, the chances of winning the lottery once are almost impossible. But the chances of
winning it twice are a lot better...after all, there are a much smaller number of lottery winners
and her odds of a second win are 1 against however many are in
that
population of winners.”
