I hated the phrase "somewhere between engagement and intimidation," and, though "boredom" is a more accurate word to convey the ends of the range I still don't like the phrasing. I couldn't think of anything better, but that's due to brain flatulence, mainly. So if anyone comes up with a prettier way to say that, please do.

Here's my revision of the short definition: a model for teaching/facilitation based on the idea that learners perform optimally when learning challenges create an appropriate level of stress; that is, enough challenge to engage students, yet not overwhelm them.
